Howard Henry Odell Kennewick, Wash.
Howard Henry Odell, 80, passed away July 5, 2006, at Kennewick General Hospital, from complications due to leukemia.
He was born in Odessa, Washington, May 18, 1926, to James and Mary Odell.
Howard was born and raised in Odessa, Washington. He graduated from Odessa High School where he enjoyed athletics. Howard served in the Army Air Force from 1945-1946. After returning home, he attended Eastern Washington College and graduated with a degree in education in 1951. Howard met Aurelia in college, and they were married in August of 1951. They remained happily married for 55 years. They moved to Kennewick, Washington in 1951 where Howard began his career in education. He taught for a few years and then was principal of Washington Elementary School for 27 years until his retirement.
Howard enjoyed carpentry and woodworking projects. His family spent many summer vacations at Priest Lake. He enjoyed boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing, golf, billiards, and home projects. Howard, Aurelia, and their three sons also enjoyed summer travels in the family camper.
Howard retired in 1981.
After trading the family camper for a motor home, Howard and Aurelia traveled extensively in the United States, visiting all 50 states. They also enjoyed several overseas trips traveling as far as Australia and New Zealand.
Howard was survived by his wife Aurelia, sons Ross and Doug, and grandson Aaron and Ben.
He was preceded in death by his son Dean, two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 17, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Presbyterian church or a charity of your choice.
